Sarkoy - Kelim - 195 cm - 122 cm

Description
Sarkoy - Kelim - 195 cm - 122 cm
Wool on wool - Balkans - First half 20th century

Sarkoy is a seaside town by the Black Sea, just on the side of the Balkans remaining to Turkey after the Ottomans were driven away from the Balkans.
This kilim is from the Balkans, Bulgary or Romania.
Turkish merchants called these peculiar rugs Sarkoy.
Out of chauvinism.
Because these are actually not Turkish.
Always bright red.
And with peculiar, unexplained designs.
Sought-after by collectors.
