Claes Jansz Visscher the Elder (1586-1652),known asPiscator and as Nicolas Joannis Visscher. Dutch draughtsman, etcher, cartographer and publisher. His publishing house was one of the largest of the time.. Worked mainly in Amsterdam, starting as a draughtsman and engraver. After 1606, he was primarily a publisher. He became a major publisher, frequently buying and reprinting older plates.
