An Ancient Roman bronze legionary phallic pendant / fertility amulet with wings. Such amulets were worn by the Roman soldiers as symbol of their strength and potency, often associated with the cult to Priapus and Vesta, but also to ward off the evil eye.

Bronze with a fine green patina with traces of cuprite.

Roman, 1st-3rd century A.D.

Dimensions: W 3.2cm; H 2.8cm ; weight: 11 grams

Provenance: acquired on Catawiki from a U.K. dealer in 2017 ; previously part of an old British collection and acquired on German art market in 1990's.
