A beautiful original pen and ink drawing, signed by Jill Murphy, one of Britain's most popular contemporary children's book authors and illustrators.
This painting was published as page 13 of the classic children's book 'Peace at Last', published 1980, and shows the owl and the cats hooting and miaowing which kept father bear awake whilst he was trying to find some peace by sleeping in the garden.
Murphy gained huge repute for her series 'The Worst Witch', 'The Large Family' and her picture books which have delighted children and parents for generations. Jill's books have won the Smarties prize, Kate Greenaway medal, Children's Book Award and the Gateshead Gold Award to name but a few.
Both 'The Large Family' and 'The Worst Witch' series have now been adapted for television.
The page is very finely drawn with each animal gorgeously rendered in minute detail.
The original artist's folder and published book are shown for reference and general interest only.
