Afshar - Carpet - 245 cm - 425 cm

Description
Afshar - Carpet - 245 cm - 425 cm
Wool on wool - Iran - Late 19th century

Late 19th Century Afshar Carpet size 245x425 cm with very nice Flower design, It's in perfect condition and full pile. No repair nor repiling on it completely original. All sides and end are original no missing. All colors are natural no fading on it. It has also very fine quality.

The field design of this rare Afshar rug consists of very large flowers which differ in interior drawing and colour scheme. Arranged in rows of changing directions, the designs stand out clearly from the deep blue ground of the field. In line with the typical nomadic principle of the horror vacui, all the intervening spaces are filled with tree forms, smaller botehs and blossoms. The ornamentation of the wide border, composed of five bands of different widths, is reminiscent of Luri weavings. Only a very few comparative examples have been published, one of them, curiously enough, in Hartley Clark's book on Turkmen rugs. – Minimal signs of age, very good condition, original selvedges and striped kilim finishes.
