Reyhanli - Kelim - 410 cm - 208 cm

Description
Reyhanli - Kelim - 410 cm - 208 cm
Wool on wool - Turkey - Late 19th century

Collector's item. 1880.
Rare kilim from Reyhanli province near the border with Syria.
Kilims have not been made here for a long time.
They are quite rare.

Beautiful natural dyes used such as this cochineal - red.
Purple is also a very popular colour.
In the brown ground colour of the outer edge some corroding - because they are natural dyes and because of their age - at least 120 years.

Very good condition considering its age; tears have been sewn on the left and right, a small piece has been inserted. Undamaged edges and head ends. The colours have not faded. Clean. Not recently washed - neither does it need to be.

Example: Book Kilim The Complete Guide, Alistair Hull, p. 153.
This book is highly recommended.
