Nain Tudeshk - Carpet - 333 cm - 217 cm

Nain Tudeshk - Carpet - 333 cm - 217 cm
kurk wool E Silk flowers on cotton - Iran - Early 20th century

Antique/semi-antique rugs from Nain (The earliest and most collectable pieces are usually called Nain Tudeshk) represent among the best 'modern' periods of rug-weaving in Iran, and are comparable with the Safavid court carpets of the sixteenth and seventeenth century in their opulence and purity both in the combination of colours and excellence of design. Nain Tudeshk rugs were made with exceptional quality and attention to detail, but in limited numbers, during the start of rug production in Nain from 1917 to 1928. Most of these exceptional pieces were not produced for export. The number of knots on these rugs varied from 500,000 knots/sq. m. to 1,200,000 knots/sq. m. The movement to stabilise the master handmade rug workshops in Nain occurred after the Aba (outer wool garment worn during the nineteenth and start of the twentieth century)
