Robert Lebeck (1929-2014) was editor-in-chief of the magazine GEO as a photojournalist and worked for the STERN for many years. In addition, he was also widely recognised as a photographic artist. In 1991, Lebeck was awarded the Dr. Erich Solomon Prize of the German Society for Photography. In 2002, he received the Annual Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography in New York and in 2007 he was awarded the Henri Nannen Prize for his life's work. Robert Lebeck created iconic photographs (the Churchill shot is one of them) and was undoubtedly one of the outstanding German photographers of the 20th century.
