Voodoo Witch Doctor Fetish Statue - wood fabrics and metal - fon - Benin

Description
Voodoo Witch Doctor Fetish Statue - wood fabrics and metal - fon - Benin
Mid 20th century - Good

Former collection of a French diplomat stationed in west Africa.

Large Voodoo Fetish figurine of a shaman, with a face slightly turned to the left.

Among the famous Fon creations, we can find the Botchio, fetishes used for the protection of villages, lineages and individuals.

Objects with slave chains are very rare since these were most often destroyed to erase the trauma caused by slave trade.

Many ornaments reveal its tutelary power. During Voodoo ceremonies, the shaman pours or spits diverse libations (alcohol, palm oil or chicken blood), as an offering, on the voodoo fetishes, in order to intercede with the god, which confers to this piece its characteristic crusty patina.

Objects are sent with insurance and track & trace.
