Yua Mask of the style of the Yupik People who live on the West Coast of Alaska.

The mask is made of Wood, vegetable fibers and natural pigments - Dimensions without the limbs: 24 x 18 x 5 cm.

The Yupik are famous for their craftsmanship of ceremonial masks. Their aspect varies depending on their use, ranging from little finger masks to large masks requiring several carriers. Masks are created specifically for an occasion and following the dream of the shaman: the spirit must have manifested itself, in order to represent it correctly. When he does not craft it himself, he indicates to the sculptor what he must do. Although the formal continuity is undeniable, each mask is unique and its craftsmanship is subject to the desires and sensibility of the sculptor. He draws from a common repertory of forms, but appropriates and adapts those” (Wikipedia)
