During the 1960s he made many paintings and watercolours with the theme of the revue ladies of My Fair Lady. He made various trips to Chatou and Collioure, the birthplace of fauvism. In 1985 he left Amsterdam and settled on the Veluwe. In his Amsterdam period he paints expressively, later mainly more towards impressionism, but also in Veessen he continues to use the unmistakable colour palette of 'the wild beasts'. Nevertheless, Freek did not stuck to fauvism but has transformed this into his own style, a unique style for the Netherlands.
