Robert Indiana - Summer Love - mat

Description
Robert Indiana - Summer Love - mat
Hand tufted wool - Plate signed - 254 / open edition - 2006

Robert Indiana
American painter, born Robert Clark on 13 September 1929.

He developed a personal Hard Edge painting with words, letters and symbols. He is often called a Pop Art artist. Indiana relies on images from everyday life such as road signs, inscriptions and advertisements, slot machines and old signs. In that respect, he is akin to Pop Art, but Indiana is more personally involved in his subjects than most Pop Art artists.
An important theme of Indiana is that of 'the American dream'. He tries to criticize society by coding, by reversing symbols of the "American Dream" in word and image.
Most famous are his posters and objects with the word LOVE.
