Rare and splendid ‘Luba Shankadi headrest’ from the D.R Congo.
A true object of collection, very contemporary.
Remarkable work, done with particular attention to details.
This headrest is composed of a base on which a couple is facing each other, with the arms placed on each other's body.
The figures are supporting the seat of the piece with their heads.
In the original myth, this primordial couple gives birth to a monstrous being with four arms, four legs and two heads.
This piece presents the aesthetic canons characteristic of the Shankadi style, which most famous representative is the famous ‘master of cascading headdresses’.
Please note the refinement of the features and the richness of the details carved by the artist, as well as the marvellous patina.
