Shaman mask from the Rai people living in the Terai region in the south-east plains of Nepal. These Terai masks are used for the Himalayan animist rituals, with their propitiatory virtues. Above all, these rituals are used to treat certain mental illnesses, among others.

The eyes and the mouth, filled with human teeth, are represented by simple rectangles.

Light wood with a dark patina from use.
