Egyptian polychrome wooden statuette of a rower:
The subject is depicted seated, head erect. The hair is short, the forehead is exposed. He is wearing a loincloth. It was a figurine of a funerary boat, intended to take the deceased to the afterlife.
Height: 9.1 cm (11.4 cm with base)
White, ochre and black paint on a white gesso background.
Middle Kingdom, 11th to 12th dynasties, 2106 to 1786 BC.
Missing arms, no restoration.
Provenance: R.B.M. gallery, ref 297.
Previous history: Private collection, built up around 1970.
