Rare Remington model 1858 New Model Army, cal .44 with 8 inch octagonal barrel.
This is an early transitional model using parts from the "Old Army" in making the "New Model Army", the easiest to spot is the brass dovetail sight that came from the Remington/Beals production.
The low serial number 25014 indicates that this one of the very first Remington NMA that were delivered to the US Army during the Civil War.
The Inspectors castrouche have been worn away, but sub inspector marks "P" and "W" can be found on all major metal parts.
Overall in very good condition. It has been cleaned but it has not been polished and reblued, instead it has kept a nice patina with ca 40-50% blueing remaining, the wood grips are intact. The holster wear and powder burns on the barrel and cylinder show that this Remington saw extensive use througout the Civil War.
The three line Remington address on top of the barrel is clear and legible.
It has been test fired and is fully functional.
Look at the pictures and decide if this rare Remington would find a good spot in your collection.
