Very high quality and refined carved set of busts of a young Balinese bridal couple, in traditional Balinese costume, the man with a frangipani flower in his headdress. The busts are both in fantastic condition without defects and very nice drawings in the wood.
Marked, A.Fatimah A Fatimah (Buleleng) is the name of an art dealer that traded all kinds of Balinese art objects. The name is often confused with that of the artist because in the case of wooden sculptures the name of the artist was above it. The name Fatimah first appears as a little girl who survived the last sati in Bali in 1903. The archives state that she had a difficult childhood, but eventually gained a place in Balinese folk life by art dealing. In this she was very successful. Her daughter later took over from her and added an extra A; A A Fatimah.
