From the abbey of Achel (Belgium), where the monks have taken care of it for years .
This beautiful statue of Mary is made from baked pipe clay (a blue clay that is white after baking).
Pipe clay has the property of being very fine and casting it nicely captures the fine details. It was mainly used in the 16th and 17th centuries to make pipes.
Mary tenderly holds Jesus in her arms and Jesus holds the globe (as ruler of the world) in his hand.
Mary stands on a cloud surrounded by angels.
The statue is signed twice; R Agostini and F Marchetti.
