Biography Henk van der Plas:
Henk van der Plas (1 June 1936, The Hague - deceased January 3, 2009, The Hague)
Henk van der Plas belonged to the Hague Group of constructivists ‘De Groep’
He was educated at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague.
In 1962 he worked in Paris. Two years later he dedicated himself, back in The Hague, to making paintings and linocuts with organic motifs. From wreck wood, rope and cork he made beach assemblies.
Tight forms, experiments with light and shadow, tight compositions and geometrical forms have characterized the work of Henk van der Plas for many years. However, after his visit to the tropics this changed. The artist became captivated by the stunning colours of the plants, flowers and seeds he found there. Henk van der Plas radically changed his way of working.
