IGOR BALBI | MASTERPIECE | ARTISTIC CHALICE | 2019
Collection ‘Master of Murano Glass - unique pieces handmade by the artist’
Artwork no. 26

Artistic chalice in Murano glass by the master Igor Balbi, made using the lume (flameworking) technique, entirely handmade, a unique piece.
Dimensions: 28.5 × 9 cm, base 10 cm.

XL chalice in ochre and opaline yellow, the cup has a luminescent effect created by the masterful blending of shades of yellow, ochre and green that bring to mind the colours of a sunset.
The chalice is characterised by an elegant stem with amber hues and an opaline base with shades of yellow and green.
Balbi reinterprets a recurrent theme of the Muranese tradition: the chalice is revived with his hands, as a unique and sculptural piece.
His mastery, which makes his pieces unique amongst their kind, allows him to achieve colouration, patterns, shapes and effects that appear to be technically and chemically impossible.
With more than 20 years of learning and experimentation, Balbi has transcended the tradition to perfect his own personal lume (flameworking) technique that takes his name, recognised and studied by the Corning Museum of Glass.

This artwork is part of the collection 'Master of Murano Glass - Contemporary', 701 original glass works of art made by Muranese experts and carefully curated by i-AM Foundation.
Each artwork is accompanied by the certificate of authenticity and is amongst the works being offered in the catalogue in production, by UNIQUE Edition Press, Milan.
