The interest of the book is due to the erudition and its ease of approach and reading (historical anecdotes...).
We owe it to Paul Lacroix, who was a great bibliophile, a writer and scholar, and the curator of the library of the Arsenal. If the series has become a great classic in the field, it is because it happily marries the work of the editor, printer, bookbinder, history, illustrators, documentation, and few books have finally managed this amalgam that we owe Firmin-Didot, at a time when the book became mediocre.
A strong quarto volume (29.5 x 20 cm) of iv-599pp. Complete.
Binding signed THIVET in half leather at the edges. Spine with raised bands, gilded title and author. Gilt topstain.
