Description
Paul Lacroix (Bibliophile Jacob) - Moeurs, usages et coutumes au Moyen âge et à l'époque de la Renaissance - 1871
History, Illustrated - Quantity: 1 - other extra - see description - Book

Very nice period binding in half-maroquin signed THIVET for this classic published by Paul Lacroix (Bibliophile
Jacob).

An original illustrated edition of 15 off-text chromolithographic plates executed by F. KELLERHOVEN, including one in frontispiece and 440 woodcuts in black text.

The interest of the book is due to the erudition and its ease of approach and reading (historical anecdotes...).

We owe it to Paul Lacroix, who was a great bibliophile, a writer and scholar, and the curator of the library of the Arsenal. If the series has become a great classic in the field, it is because it happily marries the work of the editor, printer, bookbinder, history, illustrators, documentation, and few books have finally managed this amalgam that we owe Firmin-Didot, at a time when the book became mediocre.

A strong quarto volume (29.5 x 20 cm) of iv-599pp. Complete.

Binding signed THIVET in half leather at the edges. Spine with raised bands, gilded title and author. Gilt topstain.

15 off-text chromolithographic plates executed by F. KELLERHOVEN, including one in frontispiece and 440 woodcuts in black text.

Binding in very good condition. Fresh inside, without foxing. In very good condition.
