Superb maritime brass instrument comprising a fine German Schatz ship's compensated barometer in near mint condition.
Founded in the 1850s, Schatz was for years the leading manufacturer of classic ship’s instruments, before closing in 1985.
The barometer shows superb workmanship and is fully functional. The lacquered brass housing is in fine condition with minimal patina (see photos), without cracks, dents or major blemishes. The door is secured by a brass scuttle clamp. The facet-cut glass port is clean and intact. The barometer is calibrated in both millibars and inches (mercury units). There is a fine capillary thermometer (Celsius/Fahrenheit). The barometer may need adjusting after transport, easily done via back access.
This is a great opportunity to own one of these fine instruments, for use at home, in the office or on-board ship.
I always pack with great care (see reviews) and send securely with insurance.
