Description
Adlerwerke. H. Kleyer AG - Adler Favorit - typewriter, 1937 - Iron (cast/wrought), Steel
Germany - First half 20th century

The typewriter that you can see in the attached photos, an ADLER Favorit, is from 1937 and works perfectly. It is a rare and original portable machine, with its particular straight type mechanics, typical of ADLER typewriters. As shown in the photos, the typewriter is preserved in exceptional condition.

Adlerwerke. H. Kleyer AG was a German mechanical and vehicle engineering company based in Frankfurt am Main, which made bicycles, automobiles, motorbikes and office machines.

During World War II, in Frankfurt, Adlerwerke had forced labour camps for workers imprisoned by the Nazis, at Froschhäuser Strasse and at Kleyerstrasse 45 and Krifteler Straße 47.

As there were no office typewriter stores, Adler was initially sold through Adler bicycle dealers. The special feature of all Adler typewriters was the visible font with absolute straight letters and lines. Through a toggle link, the type bars slide horizontally on a hardened steel plate and then arrive on a solid type guide for frontal impact, so that all types reach the print at the same height.
