Rafael Nadal Parera (Manacor, 3 June 1986) is a Spanish tennis player who, according to the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), is the current world number 2. His nickname, the King of the Clay, is because of his success on this surface. He is widely regarded as one of the best players of all time.

Nadal won the US Open for the fourth time in 2019, bringing his total grand slam titles to nineteen, one less than record holder Roger Federer. With 12 titles at Roland Garros, he is the only one to win the same grand slam tournament 12 times.

By winning the US Open in 2010, he was the seventh player in history and the youngest in the Open’s history to win the Career Slam. He also won two gold medals at the Summer Olympics – the singles in 2008 and the doubles in 2016 – and won the Davis Cup five times with the Spanish team. He also won a record 35 Masters titles.

Nadal first made the ATP rankings on 18 August 2008 and was ranked the top two for a record number of weeks. He managed to finish as the number 1 in 5 seasons: 2008, 2010, 2013, 2017 and 2019.
