F. Foucher - Louis Alphonse Hanne - Manufacture de l'Isle Adam Hanne
Vintage sailor tobacco pot in polychrome terracotta, string, signed and stamped "Pot à tabac" and "Le Tréport, No.1081". Height: 21 cm.
In 1795, the Englishman Potter, owner of the Chantilly Manufactory, was authorised to set up a porcelain factory in the castle of the Princes of Conti in L'Isle-Adam. This project was never followed up and marked the beginning of the establishment of several factories on the banks of the Oise River.
It was with the arrival of the ceramist Alphonse Hanne in 1890 that a true explosion of new products made of cold-painted terracotta occurred.
Isle-Adam was an important centre for the production of ceramics, which reached its peak at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries before being destroyed by the bombings of the Second World War.
