An excellent porcelain planter, measuring 25cm in diameter and weighing 2.5Kg, very finely painted with Wu Lun pairs of birds in landscape: Pheasants, storks, ducks, magpies, swallows, with calligraphic poem to the reverse. The pairs of birds symbolize the 5 different relationships: Sovereign-Subject, Father-Son, Elder-Younger Brother, Husband-Wife, Friend-Friend, and the Confucian concept admonishing the most respectful way of conducting these relationships. Marked to the underside with apocryphal Qianlong reign mark in iron red.
Estimated age: Circa 1930-1950.
Condition: Very good, no damages or repairs.
