Tasmania, Autumn 1912. Corto and Rasputin free Calaboose, a young man who was imprisoned on an abandoned island. They take him with them across the Indian Ocean to Borneo, where they meet the Sultan of Sarawak, an English potentate, who ruled over the rubber farm operated by the natives. This natural resource was vital for the British Empire and the revolt of the Dayaks threatened the interests of the crown. Corto finds himself playing the mediator’s role and take a young paralytic named Ratu ‘the mermaid’ under his wing, whom Calaboose falls in love with. Corto and his friends then head to the South Pacific and the Escondida island, to find the backer of their mission, the mysterious Monk, who has a very clear idea as to the future of the couple of lovebirds... A new adventure with the scent of the Pacific’s sprays, in line with the first mythical episode of the series, ‘La Ballade de la mer salée’ (Ballad of the Salt Sea).
