A Japanese vermillion lacquered ôyoroi suit-of-armor with idem cords and a two-piece cuirass (shu’urushinuri hi’ito odoshi dômaru).
A eight plate sujikabuto-helmet; at the back a light green (moegi) tassel and in front kuwagata-antlers and in between a maedate inscribed: Hachiman Bosatsu (Great bodhisattva Hachiman, the protector of the Warrior-class). The helmet has four neck-guards (shikoro) and decorative ‘smoked leather’. Seven-piece sode with light green cords protect the shoulders and vermillion lacquered vertical metal pieces over brocade the arms.
With an ‘angry man’ red lacquered facial mask (resseibo) and a four-piece gorget (nodawa).
The two-piece “bucket-shaped” cuirass (okegawa nimaidô) has in front a light green tassel and in front and at the back the gilded family crest of the Genji-clan: sasa-bamboo leaves and gentian flowers (sasarindo mon). From the cuirass hangs a skirt in six-parts of five-piece kusazuri. Haidate with laced vermillion oblong metal karuta-pieces over brocade protect the upper legs. The lower legs are protected by tube shaped suneate consisting of three laced vertical metal pieces.
With a waist-band and a square black lacquered store-box for a suit-of armour (yoroibako). The yoroibako has the same Genji crest as depicted at the suit-of-armour.
Early Showa, maybe Taisho period. In perfect original condition.
