Occipital jewelry (1) - Lygodium stripes, earth colors - noute - Abelam - Sepik (coastal area), Papua New Guinea
2nd half 20th century - Excellent

This very colourful Abelam headdress was used for the ritualistic decoration of particularly large yam roots. It was also ornamented with white feathers at the back of the head, and worn at ceremonial dances and on festive occasions.

Height with stand: 30 cm
