A nice provincial export jar, Qing dinasty (19th century).
The jar, less squat than usual, is potted out of cream clay and covered by a thick white glaze. Painted decoration of centaurea flowers and scrolls.
White metal cover with patina. Two circles on the bottom.
Provenance: Collected by Michael and Judith Hanson, Hong Kong, 1987-1996. The Hansons worked in Hong Kong in the years before the handover to China, Judith as an academic and a solicitor and Michael as a government official, whose jobs included Refugee coordinator at the height of the Vietnamese boat people crisis and Information coordinator and Government Spokesman for Chris Patten, the last governor of Hong Kong.
Very good condition, some firing faults.
