Philippe Starck - Alessi - Juicer - Juicy Salif

Philippe Starck - Alessi - Juicer - Juicy Salif
Italy - 1990-1999 - Aluminium

Juicy Salif is a manual designer citrus juicer in cast aluminium designed by Philippe Starck for Alessi.

Known by few, the history of this icon of design: in the early 1990s, Alberto Alessi asked Philippe Starck to create a tray of the historical kind the brand produced from 1921.
Several months went by without an answer, but one day, Alessi received an envelope from the island of Capraia containing a paper napkin from a restaurant. On it were some sketches by Starck for a new citrus juicer. While on holiday with his family on the Italian island, the designer was eating a dish of calamari, squirting lemon juice onto it, when he was inspired by the shape of the molluscs.
