A spectacular blue and red vase from the first half of 20th century.
Elegant shape, inspired by classic bronze vessels, both in the full profile, the perfect proportions and the details: the narrow foot, the crisp mouth edge and the delicate rings around the neck.
The vase is potted out of very fine, ivory hued clay, and covered with an interesting white glaze with an "orange peel" texture, smooth enough for the painted decoration but vibrant and alive to the touch.
Also, the underglaze two-color painting, cobalt blue and slightly faded copper red, is of the highest pictorial quality: a motive of a couple of magpies (probably a symbol of marital bliss) on a gnarled trunk and branches of plum in bloom. The painting composition is beautifully adapted to the peculiar shape of the vase.
Altogether, a really unique piece, probably the work of a great artist.
Perfect condition, with no damages or firing faults.
