1st half 20th century - Excellent

Our " Mutu " Janus figure was part of the " Mutulwa " basket that played an important role in the " Kananuma- Masengo " rites.
The statue could only be manipulated and interpreted by a member of the secret “Lutumbo- Lwa- Kindi " Society.

Semi hard wood type.
Body, dark brown oily patina.
Face , white kaolinite clay.
Details with hot iron technique pyrographed
Quit a bit signs of wear and paint flaking.
Here and there it shows signs of ritual knife stabbing.
With broken off left foot top.
Dust deposits on the whole.

Large and beautifully carved , extremely rare Janus sculpture !
