A wonderful bronze bust depicting Diana de Poitiers.
The details in the lady’s hair are marvellous.
Made in France in the last quarter of the 19th century.
At the front of the base it has the text "Société des Bronzes".
This bronze bust by Diana van Poitiers (1499-1566) is inspired by the 16th century sculpture on top of the so-called Diana Fountain on the grounds of the Château d'Anet. This monumental fountain was built for Diana of Poitiers, the mistress of Henry II, and depicts a naked reclining goddess Diana who has put an arm around a deer. This monumental work can today be found in the Louvre.
