Original oil jug from the Rotterdam oil company 'De Automaat', with which from the 1930s oil was sold at home by the oil man, by handcart. Every day, men in yellow handcarts with oil cans and a measuring device set off to sell oil at the door.
Both on the carts, the jugs and on the caps that the men wore was the company name "De Automaat". .
De Automaat was part of the American Petroleum Company founded in 1898, later known as Standard Oil (Esso). The oil was transported by boat from the United States to Rotterdam.
