Tom Millea (1944-2015) - Sexual Gesture - 1983

Description
Tom Millea (1944-2015) - Sexual Gesture - 1983
Platinotype - Signed - 1983

Fantastic rare vintage print by master photographer/printer Tom Millea. Believed to be unique.

Millea mastered b&w printing as apprentice to Caponigro from 1967-73. After seeing an exhibition of Weston platinums, Tom moved to Carmel and also became a master of the platinum process, which had fallen into disuse decades before. For the next 40 years he produced iconic prints - whilst the chemicals involved seriously damaged his health.
As a teacher at the University of California he led a renaissance of the platinum process and inspired a whole new generation of photographers. Millea's photographs are in the collections of the most prestigious museums in the world including the Getty, the Smithsonian, San Francisco MOMA, LACMA and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Inspired by Mapplethorpe, Bernhard, Cunningham, Stieglitz and above all Weston, Millea’s unique style shines through. Gallery value for this piece would be well over $1000.

Acquired from the Stowitts Museum, CA in 2008, will be sent be Express Courier.
