Wonderful ancient wooden belly mask from the MAKONDE people of Tanzania.
This kind of masks symbolize fertility and are also thought to be worn during boys initiation ceremonies. Good used condition with slight traces of wear and tear. Beautiful aged belly mask with a great patina.

Provenance: Ex private collection from Belgium. Collected in the period 1953 - 1959 (More details provided to buyer).
