Appealing wooden Ngbaka figure from DR Congo. The artistic style of their statues and masks, which are related to the Ngbaka, is recognizable through their elongated features, a line of vertical scarification on the forehead and a pointed chin.
Figures representing the Ngbirondo spirit are kept in special huts where libations are poured over them. They can also be placed at the entrance to a village for apotropaic reasons.
Good condition with traces of tribal use and a great dark oily aged patina.
Provenance: former private collection from Belgium.
