Talish - Runner - 290 cm - 112 cm

Description
Talish - Runner - 290 cm - 112 cm
Wool on wool - Azerbaijan - Late 19th century

Beautiful antique runner.
1890 - 1900.
Talish - this is a small country which isn't independant but has become part of Azerbaijan. With an own language. At the Caspian Sea.
The oldest people of Azerbaijan.
Renowned for their high quality rugs.

Typical are the wide edges and the narrow central field.
Beautiful golden background at the edges make the colours sparkle.
The indigo-blue field also contrasts beautifully with the bothe's.
It twinkels. Natural, plant based dyes were used.

These runners often have what is known as the 'Talish' medallion.
Also often used in other rugs from the Caucasus, like Ardebil.
This runner does not have that. But unmistakable Talish.
Undamaged edges and ends. The edges were somewhat worn and were
re-scalloped. Can easily be removed for an aficionado who prefers authentic over neat.
