Very nice mask from the Mbangani ethnic group. Eyes are slit and highlighted by small iron nails.
The Mbangani are located in the south of the DRC Zaire / Congo, on the border with Angola. This ethnic group is small and their masks are not very common in Europe.
Their art is strongly influenced by their neighbors Lunda, Chokwé and Lulua and is characterized by masks with large eyes with flat eyelids.
These masks were used in particular during ceremonies linked to the initiation of young men.
