¶ Jan Carel Josephus van Speijk (Amsterdam, 1802 - Antwerp, 1831) was a Dutch gunboat commander during the Belgian uprising who acquired patriotic fame by blowing up his boat to prevent his ship from being blown against the quay and thus end up in the hands of the Belgian insurgents.
