Complete Yangoru-Boiken bowl with powerful four-piece decoration and deeply carved central motif. The inside of the bowl has a nice user patina especially along the edges. There are also a few small cracks One side has signs of wear on the outside. There is a puncture. The bowl was collected in the Japaraka area in the 1980s and is at least 80 years old. The Boiken are a tribe in the eastern Sepik region of Papua New Guinea. In these types of bowls, food was prepared and stored such as sago flour and dough. The iconography on the underside may be a sea turtle. Very decorative piece Ex. Ulrich Kortmann
