Description
USA - Navy - Pilot helmets
Original - Good condition

Original - used, - U.S. - USN Pilot APH-6 Dual Visor - Ramshorn Flight Helmet - Named Wild Man .

At the end of the 50's the APH series helmets introduced a new generation of flight helmets characterized by the external visor covered with a protective shield. Improvement of the communication system, internal liner and oxygen mask retainers was also made and in some versions the dual dark and transparent visors system was installed. These types of helmets were the US Navy and USMC standard jet aircraft headgear during the 60's and throughout the 70's. In this period the first development of a flight helmet incorporated with the Visual Target Acquisition System (VTAS I) was also produced.

I lived in Southern California for 20 years and as a documentary maker I visited a lot of plane restauration facilities, airstrips with classic military planes and organisations that restored fighter planes and helicopters, I even got to fly in restored fighter planes, bombers and helicopters. In the USA I started collecting helmets like Blue Angels and Thunderbirds and my favourite Navy squadrons but also helicopter helmets, I also befriended and visited a lot of Vietnam veterans who flew in the war..

This fine used example of a totally genuine (size medium) APH-6B and It's offered in good used condition. It features a wonderful design, named to the nickname WILD MAN with flames, a retractable tint visor (broken) and a retractable clear visor (complete), internal ear phones, boom mic and complete liner. These flight helmets were the standard issue helmet of USN and USMC pilots.
