Fine antique Tekke Turkmen rug - 170 cm - 140 cm

Description
Fine antique Tekke Turkmen rug - 170 cm - 140 cm
Wool on cotton - Turkmenistan - Late 19th century

When one refers to the weave of tribal rugs as crispy, it means rugs with the thinnest foundations and the highest qualities. These rugs are very rare and collectable and if found in reasonable conditions demand high prices. This collectable antique handmade Turkmen wool rug belonging to Tekke tribes is considered as one of these pieces. Measuring 170 x140cm (5.6'x4.6' ) and made around the second quarter of the 19th century, has a typical design of octagonal Guls in a naturally dyed red field surrounded by similarly decorated inner and outer borders. However, its distinctively preserved end kelims make this rug to stand out from any fine pre-1900 tribal Tekke rugs. The unique trademark is written Old furnishing co Westminster S.W.1 fabric sewn at the back is the further testimony of rug being authentic. It has been professionally restored, cleaned and washed with both end kelims preserved, truly a beautiful piece.
