Our "Munganji" mask with tubular eyes is fully constructed with rattan and raffia.
Like most of the Pende's other masks, it was used for dancing during the initiation ceremonies.
It could incarnate the most diverse " Mvumpi " spirits.

Ex. Private coll. J. Van Grimberghe, Overpelt, Belgium.

Woven rattan ribbon structure.
Board of thicker, bound together, rattan slats.
Bite rod on the inside.
Two fixed tubular and white painted rattan eyes.
Middle surface smeared with red earth paste.
Collar of coco fibres.
Back with remnant of plum collar.
A lot of paint paste peeling.

Very decorative and non-current mask type !
