Provenance: Private collection, Paris

Specializing in seascapes and landscapes, this painter from the Wissant school distinguished himself at the Salon des Artists Français in the 1920s where he got several medals and exhibited at the Georges Petit gallery. A great lover of contrasts and dim lights, a vein of similarities is found throughout his career.

This view of the main square of the Bastide de Beaumont du Périgord is taken under the arcades, towards the fortified church of St. Lawrence and Saint Front, dating from the 13th and 14th centuries. The technique used here is similar to drawing, where the artist uses his support and hue to achieve his background. The ochre-hues wood takes the place of limestone on the Hills of the Périgord and the outskirts of the Quercy.
