Watercolour on cardstock depicting the Gulf of Naples with characters and boats, signed “V.Loria” on bottom right.
Vincenzo Loria, painter born in Salerno in 1849 and deceased in La Spezia in 1939.
He began to practice painting under a pupil of the master French Leon Richter, later moving to the "academy of fine arts of Naples" under the guidance of Domenico Morelli.
He made his debut in 1877 at the National Exhibition in Naples with “Interno di Pompei”.
His painting preferred depictions of genre scenes, views, Oriental subjects and lively costume scenes, works that he then exhibited around Italy, Milan, Turin, Genoa and Palermo.
He opened a personal gallery in 1890 in Naples, which soon became a reference point for the school of Neapolitan painting.
In his long career he met illustrious figures, politicians, entrepreneurs, artists and nobles around Europe that led him to important commissions.
The watercolour is in good condition, even though there is a very small tear without defects (as pictured), which does not affect the beauty of the work.
The buyer will receive a complimentary frame (not pictured) that we will have made at the time of the sale.
I am available for a possible free in-person pickup in Naples.
