New/as new

Autographed advertising postcard printed by the cycling company Milram and depicting Alessandro Petacchi (La Spezia, 3 January 1974). I was lucky enough to meet and see him in those years at the height of his career.

Professional from 1996 to 2015, with characteristics of a pure sprinter, nicknamed Alejet, he boasts 22 stage wins at the Tour of Italy (27 total, 5 revoked), 6 at the Tour de France and 20 at the Vuelta a España. He was the first cyclist to win at least two stages in a single year in each of the three major Tours. He also won the points classification in all the major Tours and wore the pink jersey for seven days.

With 179 successes, including a Milan-Sanremo, he is the fourth Italian racing cyclist with the most professional victories in his career, behind only Francesco Moser (273 wins), Giuseppe Saronni (193) and Mario Cipollini (189). He is the third of all time (with 48, behind Merckx 65 and Cipollini 57) in the number of overall Grand Tour wins, while he is in fourth place overall in the stage winners in the “pink race” and second in the Vuelta.
