Lie-Candlestick - Louis XVI - Silver - Late 18th century

Description
Lie-Candlestick - Louis XVI - Silver - Late 18th century
Rome Italy

This museum-worthy object is a true rarity. It shows a top sculptural quality. A candle holder of the Papal States, city of Rome. It looks like this object, perhaps belonged to an ancient cardinal, was specially made for him with sacred symbols, such as a three-dimensional angel represented in the act of crushing the snake, the symbol of sin. The angel holds a parrot in a raised hand, which is the symbol of love instead. Love prevails over sin, represented as a snake. It is a one-of-a-kind item! Height approximately 15 cm, maximum width 14 cm, base diameter 8.5 cm. The Roman master silversmith who made it, was certainly not stingy with materials. The item is heavy and sturdy and weighs 300 grams!
