A fine Sumerian restrung necklace composed of shell and hardstone round beads. The beads display a lovely cream colour.

Sumerian people valued jewellery as a sign of social status and a way to express wealth. Sumerian jewellery usually consisted in carefully carved beads from natural elements, such as wood, stone or shell.

Measurements: 25cm half length, folded.

Provenance: From a private UK collection, 1920's - 1940's.
